Questions from Jo-Ann:

1. What is your favorite genre?
I’m not completely sure about genres and I don’t know if I can accurately pigeonhole a book into a certain genre. So, I would say books like The Pillars of the Earth! I know you’re getting sick of me coming back to this book over and over and over again, but I cannot help it.

Yes, you are AWESOME!!

2. What is the last book you read that you gave 5 Stars and what did you love about it?

I’m pretty close to finishing The Pillars and I’m certain that I’ll give this book hands down 5 stars, but let’s leave it aside for now and talk about Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.
What I love the most about the book is the emotional connection that I had with this book. This book is incredibly visceral, gut-wrenching, heart-ripping, downright sad. I really love and appreciate how emotionally engaging this book is. I also appreciate how this book deals with some serious subject matters such as life, respect (of life) and dignity. I am so glad this book didn’t end up being another Chick-Lit which heavily focuses on romance and perfunctorily touches (or passes off touching) such issues. Light, fluffy, happy-go-lucky romance books are all well and good, I do want to read them every now and then, but those books tend to leave a much smaller impact on me. I love books that emotionally wreck me and shatter me. Weird as it might sound, but that’s true.

3. Who is your favorite author?
Ken Follett! I’ve only read one book from him, but I think he is a master of storytelling. it surely takes plenty of skills and creativity to keep the readers engaged and entertained throughout the book as thick and big as The Pillars of the Earth.

4. What keeps you from attaining your goals?
Life. There are times when things which are beyond your control get in the way. You have to ride it out and let nature run its course in such situations.

5. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Does it sound shallow if I say I don’t have any specific life goals and objectives?? Honestly, I don’t. I have no idea where I’ll be in five years. I will simply live each day doing what I really love and I’m passionate about. If that leads me to a happier life, that’ll be great.

6. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Interactions that I get to have with my friends and readers 🙂 Writing book reviews and coming up with ideas can be pretty tough and daunting at times, but whenever I receive positive responses and sweet comments, they’ll make me extremely happy. I’ll be like, ‘life is good.’ Seriously.

7. How do you start off your morning?
As soon as the alarm on my iPhone goes off, I go straight to WordPress and check all the comments and likes to catch up with them. (at this point, I’m still in bed.)
About 5 to 10 minutes later, I peel myself off my bed, switch on my PC, check Twitter/Goodreads and e-mail.
When I’m done, I pick up my Kindle and do some reading for the next 30 to 1 hour and then I wash my face, put on a makeup and do my hair while watching some YouTube videos. Then I fix my breakfast which usually consists of a piece of toast and a yogurt bowl topped with some fruits (mostly bananas) plus coffee, squeeze some reading again, and then I get ready and leave for work.

My Nominees:

I only picked a handful of people here thinking that most of you have already done this award! Lol
No pressure as always and take however long you need 🙂 Most importantly, you can feel free to skip it! No worries!

My questions to the nominees: (some my own, some from Jo-Ann)

1.  Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
2. How long have you been blogging?
3. What do you love most about blogging?
4. Who is your favorite author?
5. What keeps you from attaining goals?
6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
7. What quality do you look for a friend? What about them attracts you the most?

That’s it! We’ve made it.
Thank you all so much once again- this award and recognition have been brought by your continuous support!

Hope you enjoyed reading this and I’ll see you in my next post!

A Snippet of …

Summers in Japan.

This is what my iPhone Weather says about the weather today:

weather

Let me remind you – it’s only 8:30 in the morning and the temp is already as high as 29 degrees Celsius (84.2 degrees Fahrenheit) and the humidity is over 70%. But then again, it’s relatively low for this time of year – the worst will be close to 100% (seriously).
(Note: 34 degrees Celsius is almost equivalent of 93.2 degrees Fahrenheit in case you’re wondering.)

It’s really, really muggy and humid outside. It’s not even mid July, I wonder how I can survive the mid August – I’ll be a dead person.

Anyways, a casual updates on what summers are like here in Japan.
If your threshold for heat and humidity is as low as mine, you might want to reconsider coming to Japan at this time of year. You’ll be dead. lol

Hydrangea

I love hydrangeas. At this time of year, I can see bunches of beautiful hydrangeas blooming at the side of the road.
I often get tempted to pull over and take some pics, but I always forget or simply give up because I don’t want to get honked for disrupting the flow of traffic.

I don’t get to visit my Mom’s place as often as I used to because of a lot of overtime work and everything, but I love dropping in at her place in June or early July when the hydrangeas she planted are literally in full bloom.

Here are some pics of the hydrangeas at her place. Aren’t they pretty?

Although my favorite colors are either pink or purple, as far as hydrangeas goes, I love blue ones. I personally think the green of the leaves highlight the beautiful blue flowers and make them look even prettier.

I don’t particularly relish cloudy weather, but the cloudy sky actually matches well with hydrangeas and I like it a lot.
