Throwback Thursday: Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Hello, everybody!  It’s time for another Throwback Thursday 🙂

Throwback Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Renee at It’s Book Talk and is a way to share some of your old favorites as well as sharing books that you want to read that were published over a year ago.  This is a great way to bring some of your old favorites back to life.
If you have your own Throwback Thursday recommendation feel free to jump on board!

My pick for the week is…

Cinder by Marissa Meyer (first published January 3rd, 2012)

A forbidden romance.
A deadly plague.
Earth’s fate hinges on one girl . . .

CINDER, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She’s reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen – and a dangerous temptation.

Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth’s future.

This is not the fairytale you remember. But it’s one you won’t forget. (Goodreads)

Oh, my gosh, I don’t even know where to begin… I love this book SO MUCH!!!
I read this book at this time last year and I fell in love with this book right from the first chapter, right off the bat.
I’m not gonna lie that I started this book with slight trepidation because this is a Sci-Fi retelling in addition to it being a YA. To be honest, I had never been a big Sci-Fi nor YA fan (I do have a thing for YA books now, though), and I kind of had a misguided idea/preconceptions when it comes to YA, so it made me a bit hesitant to actually pick up this book.

But my dear Twitter friend went into this book and oh, my, she fell in love with the book and then went on reading the entire series in succession! Intrigued, I decided to take a plunge and read this book and I am SO GLAD I did.

This book gave me various kinds of feels – it made my heart flip, frustrated and gritted my teeth with seething anger. It was so exciting and exhilarating, the villain is literally evil, there was hardly any dull moment- this book kept me intrigued and impatient to turn pages and see how it plays out!

I cannot gush enough about this book but what enticed me so much is the waft of romance between Prince Kai and Cinder! The progression is spot-on and the execution is amazing. I no longer remember how many times my heart did a cartwheel!
You can read my thoughts on this book at
I bought the hardback box set right after finishing Cinder; it’s THAT good! I love this book 😀

What about you? What is your favorite book? and have you read Cinder?

Thanks for reading as always, I’ll see you in my next post!

    1. Thanks, Alex! Yes, although I enjoyed this book tremendously, when asked if I think this special or stands out, the answer would be no. As you put it, it’s more like a guilty pleasure which I want to come back every now and then.
I love the whole series although Scarlet is my least favorite 😛
